The Ancestors Tours continue…
Jeff traveled from the United States with his family to discover Teggiano, the hometown of his great-grandfather, Vito Scultore.
Son of Luigi Scultore and Clementina Di Zeo, Vito emigrated to the United States at a very young age, where he started his own family.
Together, we explored the historic center of Teggiano, where the Scultore family once lived between Via Barbacane and Via Venteruoli.
During our research, we uncovered a family connection that is quite close! Vito Scultore had a sister, Paolina, who remained in Teggiano and married Emidio Gambino in 1922. Her granddaughter, Annamaria Gambino, joined us along with Mr. Vito Scultore (Paolina and Vito were his aunt and uncle), enriching the tour with many family stories. One anecdote, in particular, left everyone astonished:
Clementina Di Zeo, Jeff’s great-great-grandmother, traveled to America to join her son but, after a short time, decided to return to Teggiano, where she spent the rest of her life. Several years later, she passed away during a family lunch after choking on a meatball. Both Annamaria and Vito knew her personally and still cherish vivid memories of her today.
Every Ancestors Tour is unique. Every family has its own story, yet the bond that connects them to their roots is always the same.
We would like to thank the Municipality of Teggiano and the civil registrar, Carmine Di Gruccio, for their warm welcome;
Viviana Ricciardone for her collaboration;
Annamaria Gambino and Vito Scultore for accompanying us and enriching the tour with their presence;
And finally, Jeff and his family for choosing to embark on this journey into the past with us.
