The 3rd edition of “The Surname Festival” will take place on August 17, 2013, and it will be dedicated to the people with Sarli as last name. This event has been organized by Il Museo del Cognome with the partecipation of FamilySearch and the endorsement of the Municipality of Padula. Among the partners also Studio Araldico Genealogico Italiano – Italian Heraldry, Tags and Ondanews. The set is always the same, Padula, the town known for the famous “Certosa di San Lorenzo.”

In 2011, the 1st edition was dedicated to the surname “Padula” to honor the hosting town. It was a moderately successful because this surname is not so common in Italy. For the 2nd edition, instead, the presence was more significant, because the surname “Pinto” is present locally and in the neighbouring towns.

This year the festival will be dedicated to the surname “Sarli” and its variants such as “Sarlo”, “Di Sarlo” and “Di Sarli”. We are glad to invite the members of this family to the take part at the event in order to meet and see again someone and also to find namesakes and to discover unexpected family ties. The gathering will start in the Certosa in the morning and it will last the whole day to let the guests spend some hour discovering Padula.

The Genealogy and Araldic convention, instead, will begin at 5pm in the main square of the town, Piazza Umberto I, where the museum will settle an exposition of the family trees, the passengers lists, the cadastral registers, the notary deeds, the photographs and the heraldic emblems about the Sarli families living in Padula, Teggiano, Anzi, Abriola and in the other places.

The guest will take advantages visiting the “Casa – Museo of Joe Petrosino”, the old town and an exhibition dedicated to the nativity scenes. The participation is free but the prizes will be reserved  to the members with the surname “Sarli”only:

1. the oldest member;
2. the youngest member;
3. the members who lives in the furthest away place from a geographical point of view;
4. the largest family.

Also, to those who wish to remain one day more in Padula, we suggest to attend “ La festa della patata rossa” that will take place on August 16-18, in Piazza Umberto I. It will be possible to enjoy the aroma and taste of the dishes made of red potatoes, a local product promoted by the Hotel Villa Cosilinum. We also recommend to chess lovers the memorial tournament “Bruno Marsicovetere” that will be held on the 18th of August in the same square and it will last the whole day.
