An unusual afternoon for the students of the Liceo Scientifico “Severi” in Castellamare di Stabia. Last April 15, a small group had the chance to discover something new, a particular museum, the Museo del Cognome.
On that occasion, the museum was the guest of a school where technology and genealogy join together. A great experience for both the museum and the school. The Director of the museum, Michele Cartusciello, shared with some students his experience in the genealogy ambit, showing how this job works and inviting them to reflect on the importance of our own origins.
The students have been attending for a year an experimental course helped by Lucia Vetrò, person in charge of the Genealogy Centre Family Search of Castellamare di Stabia. Family Search is the greatest data bank in the world where all the archives are kept in to protect them from time. Family Search is free and online.
During the course Lucia Vetrò has taught the students how genealogy works and now the students are still collaborating for the indexing of the civil and parish archives. Thanks to her, the museum got the chance to meet these young students and they learned how important the family roots are.
